Technology should make everyday life easier, more accessible, and more independent. At RAD Design & Fabrication, that belief is guiding the development of RAD Independence—a planned collection of accessible digital tools designed to support people with disabilities, families, caregivers, and organizations.
Why We’re Building RAD Independence
For millions of people living with disabilities, everyday activities that others may take for granted can present unnecessary challenges. Something as simple as identifying money, communicating a basic need, or following instructions can become difficult when technology isn’t designed with accessibility in mind. At RAD Design & Fabrication, we believe independence should not be limited by a person’s disability, financial circumstances, or access to expensive assistive technology. Our mission is to develop practical, affordable, and inclusive solutions that empower individuals to participate more fully in everyday life. We’re not developing technology simply because we can. We’re developing it because we believe it can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
One Vision, Practical Tools
RAD Independence is being designed around real-world tasks and the principle that accessibility belongs at the beginning of product development—not as an afterthought.
RAD MoneyWise
A planned tool to support understanding and identifying currency, calculating purchases, and checking change. Our exploration includes U.S. dollars and Mexican pesos, along with accessible learning approaches.
RAD Communicate
An augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) concept intended to help people express needs, choices, and ideas through accessible symbols, language, and speech-support features.
RAD StepWise
A concept for presenting everyday activities as clear, manageable instructions, with attention to different learning and accessibility needs.
RAD VoiceIt
We are also exploring a physical, tactile communication system using NFC-enabled components that could connect hands-on interaction with digital communication. This concept remains in development.
Built With Accessibility in Mind
Our goal is to explore features such as straightforward navigation, screen-reader compatibility, clear language, multilingual support, and tactile options where appropriate. Actual capabilities will be confirmed through development and testing.
Listening Before Launching
We believe the most useful assistive technology is shaped by the people who will use it.
As RAD Independence progresses, we hope to gather feedback from individuals, families, educators, disability-service organizations, and prospective collaborators. That feedback will help us prioritize practical features and evaluate early prototypes.
What’s Next?
RAD Independence is an early-stage development initiative. The tools described here are planned concepts, not finished products or currently available subscriptions. We have not announced a public launch date, pricing, or an open pilot enrollment.
We’ll share verified milestones as development moves forward.
